Napa County Declares Local Health Emergency

Public Health Officer orders removal of hazardous waste and materials

NAPA – Dr. Karen Relucio, Napa County Public Health Officer, has declared a local health emergency throughout Napa County due to the hazardous waste and materials created by the 2017 Napa Fire Complex.

The California Health and Safety Code provides that the local health officer may declare a local health emergency in the jurisdiction or any area affected by a threat to the public health. The declaration of a local health emergency establishes access to necessary resources to remove materials that create an imminent threat to public health and safety.

The threat to public health creates the immediate need to facilitate assistance and undertake preventative measures to protect the health of people and the environment.

The Napa County Board of Supervisors must review and ratify this declaration within seven days.

The Board of Supervisors and staff of Napa County are dedicated to preserving and sustaining Napa County for present and future generations as a community with generous open space, a thriving agricultural industry and a quality human and natural environment.
