Chairman Caldwell reviews a busy year

We'll be under construction, starting in January
Please note that our permitting and planning staff will be unavailable for two days in January: Friday, Jan. 18, and Tuesday, Jan. 29. We're remodeling the second floor of our Administration Building on Third Street in Napa to accommodate our new Permit Service Center. We'll update our lobby and move the Public Works staff to the first floor, too. Find out more on our website.
Resolution: I will be more active in my community in 2013
The Board's committees and commissions make recommendations about topics that affect you, your family and your neighbors. There are openings on the Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Emergency Medical Care Committee, the Monticello Public Cemetery District Advisory Committee, the Local Food Advisory Council and the First 5 Napa County Children and Families Commission. Sheriff's Citizens Academy is accepting applications
If you've always wondered what it's like to be a Sheriff's deputy, here is your chance to find out. The Sheriff's Citizen's Academy offers participants an opportunity to interact with law enforcement while learning and performing (through role play) the duties of a law enforcement officer.There are some requirements and rules, of course. We did it ourselves and saved money!
On Nov. 12, when most other folks were observing Veterans Day, our Public Works staff was busy deep-cleaning the Fifth Street Parking Garage, all three levels, with help from the City of Napa. Private sector bids to do the job: $40,000. Cost to do it ourselves: $11,267. Nicely done.
Roads plan for 2013
Our Roads division of Public Works has released its plans for resurfacing County roads in 2013, totaling 11.64 miles. Most of the work is in the Calistoga and south County areas. You can see the whole list here.
County offices closed on New Year's Day
Most County offices will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year's Day. Some 24-hour facilities, like the Jail and Juvenile Justice Center, will be open. Please call before visiting to ensure that the services you require will be available.
