Comment on the Syar Napa Quarry Draft EIR by Oct. 21
Interested parties have until 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 21 to comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) analyzing the potential environmental impacts of a proposed project at the Syar Napa Quarry near Napa State Hospital. The project would expand the existing quarry and allow mining to continue for 35 years, with a deeper mining depth and an increase in production.

Safely dispose of medications and sharps on Oct. 26
Gather your expired or unwanted pharmaceuticals and used medical sharps (needles) and on Saturday, Oct. 26, you can safely and anonymously dispose of them at one of four sites in Napa County. (If you have sharps, you must bring those to the site at the Queen of the Valley Medical Center). Safer for the environment, safer for your family!

Gov't shutdown: No immediate effect on services
The federal government shutdown that began on Oct. 1 will not have an immediate effect on recipients of health and human services programs. Call your program contact if you have specific questions about your benefits or situation.

Dept of Child Support Services Case Manager Angela Villasenor was awarded the 2013
Western States Child Support Enforcement’s
Outstanding Individual Achievement Award. This award recognizes someone who has improved the lives of children through his or her efforts to promote effective child support enforcement in the states west of the Mississippi. Angela won for her statewide work in the Family Law Court outreach. Congratulations, Angela!
Drive and walk carefully as we remove our Seal
Early Monday morning, Oct. 7, we'll use a crane to remove the large wooden County Seal from the Administration Building at Third and Coombs. No streets will be closed, but you may encounter slight delays. We hope to refurbish and remount the iconic seal.

Secured property tax bills are in the mail
If you don't receive your secured property tax bill by Oct. 31, be sure to call Treasurer-Tax Collector office so they can issue you a duplicate. The first installment of 2013-2014 taxes is due and payable on Nov. 1, 2013, and will become delinquent if not paid by 5 p.m. on Dec.10, 2013
