Sheriff-Coroner case C14-468

On Sunday August 24, 2014, 31 year-old Napa County resident Leigh Nicole McDermott was located unresponsive at her residence some time after the Napa earthquake. Lifesaving measures were initiated to revive Ms. McDermott and she was transported to Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa by ambulance.

Ms. McDermott passed away in the Intensive Care Unit at approximately 3:00pm and the death was reported to the Napa County Sheriff’s Coroner Division.

On August 28, 2014 an autopsy was performed at the Napa County Sheriff’s Coroner Office by Dr. Joseph Cohen. The autopsy did not reveal any external or internal signs of trauma and there is no direct indication that the death was the result of the earthquake. The cause of death is currently listed as pending. The cause of death will be determined by results of histology and toxicology testing, which will take three to four weeks.

The Board of Supervisors and staff of Napa County are dedicated to preserving and sustaining Napa County for present and future generations as a community with generous open space, a thriving agricultural industry and a quality human and natural environment.
