The Napa County Office of Vital Statistics provides:

• Birth Certificates
• Death Certificates
• Burial Permits
• Medical Marijuana Identification Cards

Who can obtain copies of birth and death certificates?

• In the State of California, authorized copies of vital records can only be obtained by the individual named on the record, parents of the individual named on the record, and certain other individuals and entities specified in law.
• All other requestors can only obtain informational copies.

How much does it cost for services?

As of January 1, 2013 because of California Assembly Bill 1053 certified copies of the following certificates will cost:

• Birth certificates $23.00
• Death certificates $16.00
• Fetal death certificates $13
• Download a flier with information on the $2.00 state mandated fee increase (English & Spanish)

As of April 1, 2008, the cost for services are as follows:

• Burial permits $11.00
• Medical Marijuana ID Card (Non MediCal) $124.00
• Medical Marijuana ID Card (MediCal) $62.00

How can I pay for services?

As of May 1, 2008, the Office of Vital Statistics will no longer accept cash.  Acceptable forms of payment include:

• Check
• Money order
• Payments should be made to "Napa County"

How long does the Office of Vital Statistics keep birth & death certificates? 

The Office of Vital Statistics keeps birth and death certificates for one year.

If you would like to obtain a birth or death certificates older than one year, please contact the County Recorder's office Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
