Napa County Public Health and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) are trying to get the message out to clinicians to Think, Test and Treat for pertussis. Considering a pertussis diagnosis is especially important in young infants and close contacts to infants, who are at greatest risk for severe disease. Universal immunization with pertussis containing vaccine is recommended for children and adults. Because immunity to pertussis wanes over time, we recommend that all adults receive a Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine; especially close contacts to infants, pregnant women, and health care workers.
